A/D Converters for the Internet of Things

Some of the systems being monitored in an IoT network already supply an analog signal. This is common in automotive and industrial systems. This analog signal can be fed to an analog to digital converter (ADC). An ADC measures an analog signal and converts the magnitude to a binary number. While many microcontrollers have an ADC onboard, some high speed and/or high precision applications may require a more sophisticated ADC and so an external chip is used.
