TPD4S48x-Q1 USB Type-C® Port Protector ICs

Texas Instruments TPD4S48x-Q1 USB Type-C® Port Protector ICs are single-chip USB Type-C port protection ICs that provide IEC ESD and 48V short-to-VBUS overvoltage protection. Since the release of the USB Type-C connector, many products and accessories for USB Type-C have not met the specifications. One example is USB Type-C Power Delivery adapters that only place high voltage on the VBUS line. There is also concern about the mechanical twisting and sliding of the connector shorting pins due to the pins' proximity to the small connector. This mechanical twisting and sliding can cause the 48V VBUS to be shorted to the CC and SBU pins. Also, due to the proximity of the pins in the Type-C connector, there is concern that debris and moisture will cause the 48V VBUS pin to be shorted to the CC, SBU, or USB2 pins.
