General Port Protection Solutions

Littelfuse General Port Protection provides a wide array of solutions for power and communication ports. Ports need protection from common electrical hazards such as lightning surges, induced power surges, power cross, electrical fast transient, electrostatic discharge, and short-circuits due to aging wires or installation errors. UltraMOV 14mm Varistors

Littelfuse UltraMOV 14mm Varistors meet high peak surge current rating requirements with an operating voltage range compatible with common AC line voltages (130VAC to 625VAC). These metal oxide varistors are available in various lead forms and are rated for ambient temperatures up to +85°C with no derating. The lead-free, 14mm varistors can operate at temperatures up to +125°C and are characterized for maximum standby current (leakage). These features make the Littelfuse 14mm UltraMOV varistor series ideal for AC line voltage applications, LED lighting applications, and more.

Intelligent Outlet Solutions

Littelfuse Intelligent Outlet Solutions components feature smart outlets and light dimmers that can be controlled via apps or virtual assistants. The Littelfuse product line includes PICO® II 473 Slo-Blo® Fuses, UltraMOV 14mm Varistors, SJ SCR Switching Thyristors, Thyristor Triacs, IX4340 Gate Drivers, and 650V X2 MOSFETs. The intelligent outlets plug into or replace traditional outlets and allow users to control what is plugged into them through an app or virtual assistant. The smart light dimmers are also remotely controlled. Instead of diverting energy from the light bulb into a resistor, the modern light bulb circuit is switched off many times per second around the fluctuation of household alternating current for efficiency.

Electrical Vehicle AC Chargers

Littelfuse provides a wide range of products that are suitable for Electric Vehicle AC Chargers. Although simpler in nature compared to DC chargers, AC charging stations safely deliver AC power from the electrical grid into the vehicle. Due to space and weight constraints in the vehicle, on-board chargers and AC charging stations are typically limited to lower amounts of power (22kW or less), which means charging time is slow – taking several hours. These systems also rely on a vehicle’s on-board charger to enable the conversion of AC power from the grid into DC power to charge the vehicle’s battery. It’s critical that proper measures are taken to safeguard both the charger and vehicle.

Varistors

Electrical Vehicle DC Fast Chargers

Because the conversion from AC to DC power is being done in the charging station, these units can provide higher levels of power (50kW to 350kW and beyond) to the vehicle compared to AC charging stations. Littelfuse LV UltraMOV™ Varistors offer up to a 10kA current rating, an 11VAC to 95VAC voltage range, and a 14VDC to 125VDC range. These devices are available in packages ranging from 5mm to 23mm. UltraMOV varistors are ideal for applications requiring high peak surge current ratings and high energy absorption capability. These varistors are intended for products that require voltage clamping of high transient surge currents from sources such as lightning, inductive load switching, or capacitor bank switching.
