Group Power Conversion Components

YAGEO Group (YAGEO, Pulse, KEMET) designs passive component technologies that are critical in power conversion systems, including safety, snubber, and DC link capacitors; current sense and power resistors; and magnetic components such as transformers, common mode chokes, and inductors. Because every electronic device requires power, a vast majority of these products utilize a form of power conversion or power supply to deliver the required energy.

Flexible Termination MLCCs

KEMET Flexible Termination technology is utilized in several series of surface-mount Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors (MLCCs). These capacitors were developed to address flex cracks, the industry's primary failure mode for MLCCs. The Flexible termination directs circuit board stress away from the ceramic body and into the termination area. These MLCCs reduce the risk of mechanical damage to the component that can result in low IR and short circuit failures.

SMD Comm & Auto X7R Floating Electrode Capacitors

KEMET SMD Commercial and Automotive X7R Floating Electrode Capacitors feature a 250VDC maximum voltage rating, 150pF to 2.2µF capacitance range, and ±5%, ±10%, or ±20% tolerance. These capacitors are designed to reduce the likelihood of a low IR or short-circuit condition and the chance for a catastrophic and potentially costly failure event. KEMET SMD X7R Floating Electrode Capacitors are ideal for critical applications where higher operating temperatures and mechanical stress are a concern.

Flexible Mitigation Surface Mount ≤250V MLCCs

KEMET Flexible Mitigation Surface Mount ≤250V MLCCs are solutions designed to reduce the risk of flex cracks. These solutions include the following: Flexible Termination (FT-CAP), Floating Electrode (FE-CAP), and Open Mode (FO-CAP) Technology.

Fail-Safe Floating Electrode MLCC/FE-CAP

The KEMET Fail-Safe Floating Electrode MLCC/FE-CAP utilizes a floating internal electrode design, where electrodes form capacitors in single MLCC packages. Improved voltage and ESD performance over standard designs lower risk of low-IR or short-circuit failures that may occur due to board flex. The unique electrode configuration of the FE-CAP MLCCs from KEMET also allows for a fail-open condition if the capacitor is mechanically damaged (cracked). If damaged, the capacitor may lose capacitance, but a short is unlikely.
